Welcome to the Boundary Creek General Store, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Tuatapere, New Zealand. Located at 3A Orawia Road, this charming café promises not only a delightful food experience but also a taste of local artistry. Whether you're passing through on the Southern Scenic Route or seeking a stopover, this café has quickly become a favorite among travelers and locals alike.
The moment you walk in, you're welcomed by a serene atmosphere filled with eye-catching art and curated items that tell a story of local craftsmanship. As Angela Buchanan beautifully describes, the service is warm and friendly, creating an inviting ambiance perfect for a quick coffee break or a leisurely meal.
One of the highlights of the café is its delicious food offerings. Patrons rave about the gluten-free salted caramel cashew slice and freshly baked sourdough bread, both made on the premises. You can truly taste the care and skill in every bite. Chrissy recommends visiting during baking hours for a warm slice of sourdough, an experience that can turn an ordinary moment into a memorable one.
The café doubles as a gallery and curio shop, providing not just culinary delights but also treasures to take home. As Terry Langmead discovered, shopping here is a charming experience, with unique finds like earrings crafted by local artisans. This dual-purpose space allows patrons to savor their coffee while appreciating beautiful artworks, making it a feast for both the palate and the eyes.
A shoutout to Wendy, the lovely proprietor, who is noted for her friendliness and exceptional service. Customers like Stiofán Mac Suibhne appreciate her engaging conversations and unparalleled warmth, adding to the overall experience. Her passion for the café is evident, and it enhances the sense of community that permeates Boundary Creek.
So, whether you're craving a delectable muffin or exploring the intriguing art pieces, the Boundary Creek General Store is undoubtedly worth the detour. It’s more than just a café—it's an experience that captures the spirit of Tuatapere, inviting you to pause, sip, and savor the beauty of the moment.

We stopped here for a short coffee break on our drive south from Te Anau. Service was warm and friendly, food was delicious and the shop is filled with beautiful items and paintings.

We stopped by briefly after reading about this place on a blog. The gallery side of it is really interesting and I bought a nice pair of earrings. The proprietor was friendly and we had a nice chat. My husband loved his cookie! Definitely worth a stop on the Southern Scenic Route.

Great coffee and Wendy is a very friendly proprietor. It's a gallery / curio shop with some really interesting art & furniture. Well worth taking the Southern Scenic back road from Te Anau via Manapouri to Invercargill. Scenery is spectacular. Tuatapere has a few other galleries and usefully an EV charger.

This is my go to for coffee and (usually) delicious muffin, but today I tried the new blue vein cheese roll. Loved it

Great coffee, and you must try the gluten-free salted caramel cashew slice - it’s divine! A bonus if you’re there when the warm sour dough bread comes out of the oven (made on the premises!) Wendy (the owner) is the most lovely person behind the counter!

GREAT blue cheese rolls, unique specialty. My piccolo was superb. Bought a really amazing artwork of an old beat up car. It will go into the Bayview Hotel Bluff when we get it up and going! S & Peter. Bluff/Fiji.
